Two great days at prep groups
Just returned from the second of two all day prep groups - hurt child. Full of info and great stories from the adopters - I'll second that it is invaluable info they provide. Quite a lot of info to take on board but the group exercises were the best - makes you consider all sorts of scenarios.
So excited about the coming months and have a great SW who says were very keen and will have to keep up with us - hope she keeps her word!! All homework done on time!!
Sadly two of the original couples on the group have dropped out, but I guess that is why the process is as it is, to ensure you prepare yourself for all eventualities, and that you are sure it really is what you want to do.
Looking forward to keeping you up-to-date

Oh how very exciting.
It's great to hear that you are enjoying it all so much!
I have read that statistics say that 75% of applicants drop out at some stage or other before Panel which is an amazingly high percentage, but it does sort out those of us that are "determined"
Keep us up to date.

Re: Two great days at prep groups
homestudy has already started...we've had 2 visits, and will have one a week now until we go to panel (hopefully April) unless holidays interfere. But, other couples on our prep group have only had one visit and their homestudy isn't due to start until November - do different SWs do it differently? Or is it just the luck of the draw? We chose a VA as their post-adoption services are apparently fantastic

Re: Two great days at prep groups
Hi Freda,
Yes, all VA's are very different. We initially enquired with ours last October, had our first home visit in November and then our combined (exclusive i.e. only us and no other adopters) home study / prep happened in Jan & Feb 09 - was supposed to start in December but we had already booked a holiday.
Meant to have gone to panel in May or June but a slight hic cup meant Sept & we were approved 2 weeks ago, so yes every VA works differently.
We too chose our VA due to the post adoption support they offer!
Best of luck
