Re: 1st home visit advice
Try not to be nervous, I would let her see your pooch (that thinks he's a rottwieller! we have a yorkie like that
) then I would dispatch him to the bedroom! Try to get as much information as you can, if you have specific questions jot them down incase your mind goes blank.
Good luck and let us know how it goes

hi
agree with others don't hide your dog! I think most of us having embarrassing pooches! Just make sure you can contain them, if needed, and that they don't bite.
Good luck.

Re: 1st home visit advice
We are at visit number 3 of home study and on the first visit the dog was in the garden, but we bought him in and said go on then go and say hello. He toddled over put his head on her lap and just looked at her with big eyes. Hubby and I both looked at each other as if to say "Is this our dog?" - lol
After a few minutes of him not letting her write a thing down without nudging her for a fuss, we popped him into his secure area (which will also be his retreat if we get children placed) and he fell fast asleep. She was more than happy with this, so my advice is let your SW meet all your pets, they have to at some stage anyway to do the health and safety check on them all, so your pets might as well get used to the SW from the start and they will be more relaxed when the time comes. Good Luck

Re: 1st home visit advice
sorry i have not posted an update for a while. the SW is coming back out today with her manager type person. this is mainly because grumpy grandad was totally honest and said about the HIV. so they now want to talk about life expectancy etc. i was hoping this would not be a problem as it is not in his name but apparently it will be a loss to the child - so fingers crossed!! will try and update a little more regularly.

Re: 1st home visit advice
Hope everything goes well, I think it is better to be honest.
You will be able to reassure them how you will prepare any child with any loss as and when(hopefully a long way off).
Good luck and keep us posted

Re: 1st home visit advice
they are complete arses!!!! they have essentially told us not to bother applying as we will be turned down becuase:
1. we have an exsessive number of dogs (4 btw)
2. We have an unconventional family set up because i live with a guy who i am not in a relationship with and i see him as my dad.
3. HIV is "life limiting" even though we have stuff from grumpys consultant that says it is chronic. the SW and adoption guy are saying that hiv means you have about 5 years even though we have medical proof grumpys predicted life expectancy is 25 years (not bad for someone who is coming up 50)
4. i have an unuassual family as both parents are dead.
5. we have a (fenced off) river at the bottom of the (3 acre) garden!!
so i am really really annoyed and am now going back to looking at surogousy or heaven forbid IVF - so much for giving a child a chance!
wishing everyone else the best in there searchs and lets hope they have better luck than me.
